- The arrival of the floating dock to Port of Frederikshavn is a milestone for Orskov Yard, and we are looking forward to taking the dock into use by the beginning of the new year. To my knowledge, it is more than 40 years ago since a newly constructed floating dock has been delivered to a Danish shipyard, and with this investment we will expand both our capacity and our market potential, says Lars Fischer, CEO at ORSKOV YARD.
It has taken 15 months to construct the floating dock, which was delivered from the Turkish shipyard HAT-SAN on July 15, after which the dock was tugged to Frederikshavn by the anchor handling vessel Fairplay-33. The tug, which is of 3,700 nautical miles, has taken 24 days and has gone via the Mediterranean Sea, Gibraltar, Biscayne Bay and the English Channel before arriving in Frederikshavn on Saturday morning. In general, the weather was favourable during the voyage, where especially the calm wind conditions during the voyage through the Biscayne Bay were important for a safe home transportation.
- Orskov Yard was one of the important initiators in the dialogue on the port expansion, and therefore it is amazing that we can welcome Dock 5 today. With this investment, the shipyard is taking responsibility and strengthening the maritime service area – not only in Frederikshavn, but also in all Northern Jutland. Congratulations to Orskov Yard, to Port of Frederikshavn and the city, says Mikkel Seedorff Sørensen, CEO at Port of Frederikshavn.
The dock must now have an internal hydraulic support system installed and await the finishing of a new quay at Port of Frederikshavn, after which it can be taken into use by the beginning of 2021.
